Difficult Situations in a Project Manager’s Work

This training is a practical program for project managers working in demanding environments. It focuses on effectively dealing with delays, unclear requirements, limited resources, and time pressure.

Participants will learn proven planning techniques, risk and quality management methods, and will develop key communication and leadership skills such as assertive communication, conflict management, and team motivation.   • Challenges in an unfavorable project environment: unrealistic deadlines, an inexperienced team, lack of prioritization

  • Problems with coordinating multiple projects

  • Unclear project objectives

  • Techniques for managing delayed projects: fast tracking, crashing, schedule compression

  • Critical path and risk management

  • Dealing with wishful planning and assertive project communication

  • Gathering information for realistic planning

  • Team and conflict management; providing effective feedback under pressure

  • Motivating team members

  • Supporting teamwork and Agile practices

Day 2

  • Managing unclear customer requirements and effective communication

  • Collecting, verifying, and refining requirements

  • Ensuring supplier/product quality; best practices in quality management

  • Process focus vs. deliverables focus

  • Preventive and corrective actions

  • Monitoring and enforcing assigned tasks

  • Tracking progress and accountability

  • Corrective actions and reporting

  • Training summary, best practices, and applying insights in practice

  • Continuous improvement
